Nathan joins the Quins U16's

We are delighted to hear that Nathan in Year 10 will begin his U16 Harlequins rugby training in July for the new season. This is much deserved recognition for Nathan's hard work and commitment.
Warden Park Secondary Academy is extremely proud of Nathan’s achievements and wish him the best of luck on his preparation during pre season.
We look forward to hearing more of Nathan’s accomplishments over the season.

Science event in Brighton tomorrow

On Saturday 21st May, Soapbox Science Brighton is back on Brighton & Hove beach by the i360! From 11am to 2pm, 10 women will be talking about their scientific research to raise the profile of women in science and to provide role models for the next generation of scientists.

OUT OF SCHOOL SUCCESS

Thomas Carter has made the Sussex U14 Boys County Hockey team this year.  He has played in 6 matches so far against Surrey, Kent, London South, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire.

The remaining matches will completed by the end of May.  This is a huge achievement for Thomas and is testament to the hard work that he has put in to a sport that he loves to play that he has earned his place in the team amongst a lot of boys who are privately educated, who play a lot of hockey at their schools.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Competing alongside Max, mentioned in a recent newsletter, Thomas (year 9) and his partner Julie (year 7) also represented the South East region in the UK Inter-Regional Acro Gymnastics Championships.

Here is a picture of them with their gold medals, helping the South East region to third place overall, behind Scotland and London.

jubilee music project

Two weeks ago, a group of our Year 9 and 10 students took part in a workshop with Ensemble Reza musicians where the students composed two entirely original pieces of music to celebrate the Jubilee that are being orchestrated for full choir and orchestra.
On Sunday the first rehearsal took place with The Community Orchestra, Cuckoo Choir and Holy Trinity Primary/Warden Park students.
The pieces will be performed Live at the Jubilee Celebrations in The Orchard's Shopping Centre on June 4th and at Warden Park on Sunday the 19th.
Click on the link below to show a video of two pieces being rehearsed. I'm very proud of the fact that our students composed the music for this and hope you're as impressed as I am!

News from student futures

Is there a Doctor in the house? Attention Years 8, 9, 10 and 11

BrightMed identifies and supports young people from across Sussex who have the potential to become tomorrow’s doctors.
The programme will increase awareness of what it takes to study medicine and healthcare subjects, through fun, inspiring and interactive teaching focused on medicine, health and science.
BrightMed works with students from Year 9 to Year 13. As a ‘BrightMedder’, young people will take part in regular Saturday sessions that involve knowledge sessions, activity days, lectures and seminars. There is also an opportunity to experience life as a student with a stay at the University of Sussex campus during a four-day residential summer school at the end of Year 12.
Every year BrightMed aims to recruit 80 Year 8 students, who will start the programme at the beginning of Year 9. Often we also have spaces in other years and so would encourage applications from those currently in Year 8, 9, 10 or 11.

WPSA is looking forward to welcoming a number of Ukrainian refugees, with staff and students already practising Ukrainian words and phrases.

Our new arrivals will join a diverse community at WPSA with over 100 students from around the world.  On arrival they will benefit from a well-established EAL (English as an Additional Language) curriculum and will participate fully in our broad curriculum of subjects.  Importantly, the new arrivals will receive both professional pastoral care from supportive staff as well as a warm welcome from fellow students.

Summer holiday sports courses now live!

Are you concerned about the lack of engagement from your teenagers and how active they may be over the Summer holidays?  We may have an answer to entice them away from the X Box and phone!
For the current years 7, 8 and 9 if you book 1 day you get the 2nd half price, if you book 2 days you get the 3rd day free.
Often children only want to take part if a friend is doing so.  We encourage them to show character and just get involved and make new friends.
For the younger students 0 to 6 if you book on for 2 full courses you will get the 3rd course for FREE.
Please see the booking links below for the courses we offer.  ILink includes dates, prices and how to reserve your place.
