TEACHING ASSISTANT, TERM TIME ONLY

Required as soon as possible.  Pay scale: SLT Grade 4 currently £17,196-£19,466 fte (actual pro rata STARTING salary £10,618 ). 

Hours of work are 27.5 per week term time only (with the expectation of attending some inset days if the programme is relevant). Fixed term contract until July 2020.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and successful Additional Learning Support team. The role involves working closely with our SEND/EHCP students across a range of subjects to support students’ learning in mainstream classes and in specific Intervention sessions. 

This would include:

  • Supporting students to access lessons across the school;
  • Developing an understanding of the needs of the students you will be working with e.g. Dyslexia, Autism, and Downs Syndrome;
  • Building students’ self-esteem and confidence;
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting on student progress;
  • Working 1:1 or in small groups with students;
  • Providing support with personal care where needed. 

To be an effective in this role you will need to be able to:

  • Establish a positive, supportive relationship with our more vulnerable students;
  • Be flexible and able to adapt both to the developing needs of the students and the requirements of the teacher and department;
  • Work calmly when under pressure;
  • Learn and work with our digital systems. 

Colleagues within our teams should also have:

  • a genuine passion for education and desire to make a positive difference;
  • excellent organisation and communication skills;
  • a friendly and professional manner.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES 

Warden Park Secondary Academy has an exciting opportunity for volunteers to work with a range of learners who have a learning/additional support need and require a reader/scribe during examinations and to support assessment work.Full training to provide this support to their learners will be provided.  

Volunteers should have a good academic ability, preferably with previous experience working with young people or within education, and appreciate the importance of confidentiality. 

Volunteers will be asked to complete and return a Warden Park Support Staff application form (see below) and also provide the names and full contact details (including email addresses) of two professional referees.  All successful volunteers will also be subject to a Health Assessment.

Supply Teacher and Cover Supervisor Opportunities

Although we do not have any specific vacancies at present we are always interested in meeting people who are looking to return to teaching or working as part of a team covering lessons.

We have a well-established and highly effective team of Cover Supervisors who work closely with our students across all subjects to ensure they maintain their learning in the absence of their regular teacher. The cover team has a wide variety of previous experience and skills which are used across the Academy when not covering lessons. Consequently, every day is different and spent working with a wide range of colleagues and students, making this role particularly interesting. The majority of the team work between 2 and 3 days a week.

From time to time we also need supply teachers to cover longer term absence and for this we draw upon a small pool of teachers who know our systems and expectations. 

Our cover supervisors and supply teachers are extremely adaptable, organised and are able to work calmly often under pressure. They develop a good working knowledge of current ICT packages and digital learning and because of our commitment to developing our staff they regularly engage in a range of training activities. 

Cover and supply staff often find that the experience gained allows them to secure training opportunities (e.g. PGCE) or further advance their careers.
