I am delighted to be working with you as a year group again this academic year. Your time in Year 8 demonstrated what a lovely group of young people you are, and this year provides the opportunity to build on the excelllent foundations.
Welcome to the big league! Year 9 is without doubt the most important year of your school lives so far. The work that you put in now will form the basis for success at GCSE and far beyond. The old adage, “you get out what you put in” is the motto for this year.
Being organized and resilient is the key to success. It sounds obvious, but ensure that you bring the right equipment to school every day: books, pencil cases and iPads form the basis of your tool kit. GCSE qualifications are not easy, and you will no doubt have setbacks along the way. The challenge lies in responding to them positively, with courage and resilience. Never feel you cannot achieve-you can and you will, with effort, grit and a “can do” attitude.
Ensure that you use Go For Schools daily-I do when I track how you are getting on, and I know your parents do too. Updates on your progress and attitude to learning will be sent home regularly and there will be a celebration of all the good things that you have done on a termly basis.
In July you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of absolutely fantastic activities. There will be trips to Disneyland Paris, a PGL residential trip to Wiltshire as well as two homestay visits to France and Spain respectively. For those of you not going abroad, there will be a whole host of fun and enjoyable in school activities.
In short, roll your sleeves up, get stuck in, and grab all the opportunities that are on offer. Have a great year!
Mr Corke, Head of Year
