Warden Park Secondary Academy

The Best From All

OUR TEACHERS WHO HAVE TRAINED AT WARDEN PARK

When did you start working at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

I started at Warden Park in 2016.

What is your role at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

Science Teacher, Deputy Head of Community and ECT mentor.

What do you remember about how you were supported by the mentoring and induction programme at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

The induction programme was really useful because I was worried I'd struggle to learn the school policies e.g. behaviour. I think each of the induction session topics came at just the right time, as I was starting to think about how I was going to apply these to my teaching. I felt really supported by my mentor, and left Warden Park to go to my second placement feeling confident enough in my new skills to apply them in an unfamiliar school.

Why should someone choose to train to be a teacher at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

This is a school where any member of staff you meet is eager to help and support you in any way they can. The students we have are friendly and polite, and will usually thank you for the lesson as they leave the classroom. We are always encouraged to try new things in our lessons, even if we aren't sure they will be successful, which I think is especially important if you are just starting out.

When did you start working at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

I joined in 2020.

What is your role at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

History, Geography and Learning about Life  Teacher and Form Tutor

What do you remember about how you were supported by the mentoring and induction programme at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

I received fantastic support throughout my training year and into my year as an ECT. I was fortunate enough to have two mentors within the History department who were massively supportive and helpful in terms of lesson feedback and advice. They were always available for help whenever it was needed, which is also true of other members in the department and in the school more widely. The induction programme led by Mandy Bell was a great way to be further embedded into the school as well as a means of picking up 'good practice' from the weekly sessions, which often included input from experienced members of staff around the school.

Why should someone choose to train to be a teacher at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

Warden Park is a school where you will feel supported every step of the way through the training process and beyond. This support comes not only from the mentors and induction staff assigned to you, but from members of staff in every part of the school. You can stop and chat with any colleagues you meet to get advice and useful nuggets of information. You are also encouraged to be brave with your classroom practice in order to find what works for you, without the fear of what happens if things 'go wrong'. It is a safe space to begin your teaching journey.

When did you start working at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

I have worked at Warden Park since my training year.

What is your role at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

I am a Science Teacher and Deputy Head of Community.

What do you remember about how you were supported by the mentoring and induction programme at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

The mentoring and induction programme at Warden Park was incredibly supportive. The mentoring programme was tailored to me and my mentor ensured that the speed in which aspects of my teaching were introduced was based on what I was able to do and comfortable in doing. My weekly meetings with my mentor allowed us to discuss areas that I wanted to work on as well as what my mentor had noticed needed improvement giving me scope to take some ownership on what I felt I was struggling with. The feedback and advice I received proved invaluable over my training year and in the time since I have started working for the school. The induction programme meant I was able to receive weekly school based training from a huge variety of staff around the school. The induction programme was run for a mixture of trainees and NQTs which meant we were able to share experiences and I was able to hear from those who had also only recently gone through the training experience.

Why should someone choose to train to be a teacher at Warden Park Secondary Academy?

Warden Park is an incredibly supportive school to train in full of teachers with a huge amount of experience. The mentors and professional tutors are wonderful and work so closely with you throughout the year to ensure that you can get the most out of your training. The students at Warden Park are enthusiastic and keen to further their learning. This makes your training year feel that much more rewarding. .

School Direct (SD) and PGCE at Warden Park Secondary Academy

As in previous years we will be offering school direct places at Warden Park Secondary Academy and we also expect to be able to host PGCE trainees from September 2022.

Our School Direct partners are the BOSCO Teaching School alliance and the University of Sussex. With School Direct prospective trainees apply to the school they would like to train in and that school then considers (along with the University) their application. If successful this leads to a SD place on the PGCE. As the host school and therefore main placement is known in advance there will be opportunities for the trainee to engage with and form a relationship with that school ahead of their training e.g. attending September INSET days.

To apply for SD please follow the link above to the BOSCO site. If you have any questions about School Direct then please contact Nikki Simmons nsimmons@wardenpark.co.uk

The SCITT route described on these pages is an alternative to School Direct and PGCE that we are also offering from September 2022.
