TEACHING
Our teaching and learning strategy is built upon a research-based pedagogical approach, meticulously developed by our dedicated teaching and learning working party. This approach is centred around six key characteristics of excellent lessons, which guide our instructional practices and ensure a consistent, high-quality learning experience for all. We ensure high challenge is embedded in all lessons, pushing students to think critically and deepen their understanding.
These characteristics also form the bedrock of our comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for teachers. Our staff collaborate closely, developing innovative strategies informed by the latest educational research, all tailored to meet the specific needs of the students in our care. A crucial element of our CPD involves all teaching staff observing colleagues' lessons, a practice that helps us collectively identify and champion the very best teaching in action.
A significant focus for us is the development of students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through literacy and oracy opportunities that are embedded across the curriculum. Lessons are thoughtfully planned to provide frequent opportunities for students to engage with diverse texts, craft compelling written responses, and participate in discussions and presentations. This ensures they develop their communication skills to an exceptionally high standard.
